Influence of anomalous blood viscosity on resistance to flow in the dog's hind limb.

چکیده

Observations were made on an isolated hind leg preparation of dogs, perfused with blood and various homogeneous perfusates. A wide range of intravascular pressures were used while a constant arteriovenous pressure gradient was maintained. It was found that parallel increases in arterial and venous pressures result in a reduction in resistance to blood flow. A similar change in resistance is observed when more homogeneous perfusates are employed. Therefore, under the conditions of these experiments, the reduction in resistance with elevation of intni vascular pressure must be ascribed principally to passive clistention of the vascular bed.

The influence of erythrocyte concentration upon the pressure-flow relationships in the dog's hind limb.

Since alterations in cell-plasma ratios are of paramount importance in the assessment of periplieral resistance, a study of pressure-flow relations was made in which blood having wide hematocrit values was perfused through a dog's hind limb in which collateral circulation has been excluded. When vessels were moderately dilated by denervation, the relative apparent viscosity was not affected by ...

The Effect of Erythropoietin on Rat’s Red Blood Cell Indices in Simulated Microgravity (Experimental Study)

Purpose: Microgravity causes major changes in various systems of the body in space, such as shift in cerebrospinal fluid, decreased red blood cells count, and electrolyte loss. These complications are very important in space and we should find new approaches to prevent the side effects of microgravity in astronauts. Materials and Methods: This experimental study was conducted on 21 adult ma...

Effects of anoxia on the vascular resistance of the dog's hind limb.

A NOXIA is known to induce a biphasic effect on blood flow to the extremities. In anesthetized dogs, there is a decrease in blood flow to the leg during anoxia but this is immediately followed by an increase during reoxygenation. 1-3 Since thermoelectric methods have been used for recording blood flow, it has not been possible to express the vascular responses quantitatively to the same extent ...

Humoral Rheology I. Viscosity Studies and Anomalous Flow Properties of Human Blood Systems with Heparin and Other Anticoagitlants by Alfred L. Copley, Ludwig C. Krchma, and Mary E. Whitney

The effect of anticoagulants on the flow properties of blood, plasma, and serum has been subjected to investigation with various results. Trevan (1) studied the viscosity of blood with various anticoagulants. He found that hirudin has no appreciable influence on the viscosity, whereas oxalate, citrate, and fluoride in the solid state were inadmissable because they altered the volume of the corp...
